This is a home we recently showed to some clients of ours. One of the fun and interesting things about Cliff May homes is how different the perception of size can be based on the siting on the lot as well as the furniture layout. This is the smallest model, and at 1130 square feet or so, it’s pretty small. And there is another small model for sale right now, too.
But this one feels 10x larger. When you walk into this house, aside from some changes to the kitchen island and the removal of the glass divider, the living-dining-kitchen area is largely the same as how the house was built — and it works! These same clients walked through the “other” 1130 square (which had a reconfigured kitchen) and they concluded the house was just too small — but this one works.
I think they did a great job saving some of the original fabric of this house. The doors and windows are there and the birch paneling in the living room has been lovingly refinished. The floors are a stained concrete overlay and, like the layout, it just works. There is a unique modification in the master bedroom. A closet has been added on the outside wall, but it’s hidden via wood paneling — you have to know it’s there to open it. It’s a clever touch and by my calculations, you can still place a queen size bed in the “traditional” Cliff May location — against the back wall.
The yard is a bit of a blank slate. Aerial photos show that there used to be a pool, and maybe it’s just the hot weather, but the grass looks rather forlorn knowing there used to be a swimming pool. But’s a big yard and a big driveway, allowing for great off-street parking options. This one is on a less-busy street and in the middle, the location and lot size are great. If you’ve been looking for a Cliff May and disappointed with both the pricing and some of the houses lately, this is the one worth seeing.
